Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - For the second straight night, the Winston-Salem Dash found themselves trailing in the middle innings. The Asheville Tourists opened a 4-0 lead going into the sixth when the Dash finally broke through. Winston-Salem plated two runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh to come from behind, taking a 6-4 win over the Tourists Wednesday night at Truist Stadium in front of 2,309 fans.
Asheville (24-31) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a solo home run from Collin Price and proceeded to put a run up in each of the next three innings taking a 4-0 lead into the fifth.
Winston-Salem (32-24) could not crack Asheville starter Michael Knorr, who was perfect through five innings. In the sixth, the Dash woke up offensively.
Wes Kath led the inning off with a double and two batters later, Caberea Weaver continued his red hot week. With a 2-0 count, the Nashville, Tennessee native smacked his third home run in his last five games over the wall in left center cutting the Asheville lead in half, 4-2.
Winston-Salem had turned to its bullpen in the fifth following the start from Jonathan Cannon and dominated. Everhett Hazelwood was untouchable over 2.1 innings, not allowing a baserunner and punching out three. The Dash bats, trailing by two at the seventh inning stretch, kept the fans on their feet.
After a pair of walks and a single to load the bases, shortstop Taishi Nakawake stepped up in another big spot. He dropped a single into right center tying the game up at four with only one out. Next to the plate was Weaver with a chance to continue his torrid stretch and give Winston-Salem the lead.
He wasted no time. The left fielder smoked a ball back up the middle plating Kath and giving the Dash the lead, 5-4. Terrell Tatum bought the Dash insurance on a sacrifice fly and Winston-Salem led 6-4 after seven innings.
Hazelwood would depart for Jake Palisch who stranded a runner at third in the eighth, and Adisyn Coffey entered for the ninth looking for the save. The Indiana native punched out the first two he saw and got Jacob Melton to ground out finishing off the 6-4 come-from-behind win.
The Dash bullpen combined for 4.2 innings of one hit baseball, striking out six. Weaver extended his hit streak to six games, blasting his third home run on the season and driving in three more runs in the victory.
Winston-Salem and Asheville meet for game three of six on Thursday night. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. from Truist Stadium as the Dash rebrand to the Winston-Salem Salsa as a part of Minor League Baseball's 'Copa de la Diversión'.
