DANBURY, C.T.-Coming off a walk-off victory over the Mystic Schooners on Sunday, the Ocean State Waves looked to continue their hot streak as they played the Danbury Westerners on Monday. Behind two RBI's from Dylan Burdeaux (Southern Mississippi) and only three hits allowed by Waves pitching, Ocean State rolled to their second straight victory with a 2-0 victory over the Westerners at Rogers Park.

Getting the start for the Waves was southpaw Ryan Gray (Trinity TX). In his third start of the summer, Gray was dominant against a similar Westerners lineup that he faced back on June 5. In seven shutout innings, Gray allowed just three hits while striking out three batters. Gray did not allow a hit between the fourth and seventh innings, keeping the Westerners lineup in check throughout the night.

While Gray was holding the Westerners off the scoreboard, the Waves offense took advantage of opportunities against Danbury starter Shaniel Rivera (Vanguard). The Waves first jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the second. After two strikeouts from Rivera, AJ Ramirez (USC) reached base with a walk. Advancing to third on a single by Buck McCarthy (Bryant), Ramirez came around to score the game's first run on an RBI single by Burdeaux to put the Waves up, 1-0.

The Waves continued the offensive roll against Rivera and the Westerners in the top of the seventh. Ramirez led off the inning with a double off the lip of the left field fence. Burdeaux drove the run home on an RBI single up the middle to put the Waves ahead, 2-0. Following the RBI single, Alex King (Saint Louis) and Jake Palomaki (Boston College) singled off Rivera to load the bases. Ryan Blanton (Georgia State) grounded into a fielder's choice that resulted in Burdeaux being forced out at home, keeping the bases juiced for Tim Lynch (Southern Mississippi). Lynch flew out to left fielder Zachary Burger (Louisiana Tech), ending the frame while keeping the Waves ahead over the Westerners, 2-0.

In the top of the eighth, the Waves turned to Oliver Powers (Bryant) to make his third appearance of the summer. Powers ran into control problems in the eighth, walking Dan Bergami (Springfield) and hitting Brendan Cox (Mercyhurs) to get runners on with no one out. Following Cox's at-bat, interim manager Jim Sauro made the call to the bullpen, bringing in Brad Applin (Rhode Island) for a six-out save opportunity. Despite hitting Frank Maldonado (Pittsburgh) with a pitch, Applin retired the side in the eighth, leaving the runners stranded while keeping the Waves ahead, 2-0.

Applin came back on the mound for the bottom of the ninth. Despite walking Patrick Wright (Le Moyne) and Jack Klages (Missouri) with one out, Applin retired the next two batters, inducing a fly out off the bat of Cox to secure a 2-0 victory for the Waves.

With the victory, the Waves improve to 6-6 on the summer. The Waves are now tied for third in the NECBL Southern Division with the Plymouth Pilgrims and New Bedford Bay Sox. There were several notable performances for the Waves in the ballgame. Palomaki had two singles, while McCarthy, Burdeaux, and King all reached base more than once.

Following their second straight victory, the Waves return to action tomorrow afternoon with a contest on the road against the Laconia Muskrats. John Amendola (Northeastern; 0-2, 13.50 ERA) makes his third start of the summer with the Waves, while the Muskrats counter with Bryan Coughlin (Southern Mississippi; 1-1, 1.31 ERA). Tune in online as Tim Scott and Patrick Cavanaugh bring you the action on the NECBL Broadcast Network. First pitch is set for 6:30 at Robbie Mills Park.
