NECBL New England Collegiate Baseball League

NECBL Weekly Roundup

June 22, 2015 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) News Release

Player of the Week

IF Mandy Alvarez

Senior

Plymouth Pilgrims

Eastern Kentucky

Alvarez was lethal in only four games and 16 at-bats last week, making his first week in a Pilgrims uniform a memorable one. He finished 8-for-16 (.500) with four runs, four doubles and a league-leading three home runs while also driving in four runs. His OPS stands at a stunning 1.842 at the end of that span. He homered twice in the Pilgrims' 5-2 victory against Ocean State on Friday and also left the yard the previous day at Mystic as part of a 3-for-3 performance. He was a single and a triple shy of the cycle in that game, as well.

Pitcher of the Week

RHP Dakota Edwards

Junior

North Adams SteepleCats

Bridgeport

Edwards, meanwhile, became the first individual to toss a no-hitter since Laconia alum Chris Costantino did so in 2011 against Keene in a 1-0 SteepleCat road victory at Sanford on Saturday night in Maine. He fanned six and walked two of the 30 batters he faced, making his North Adams debut a memorable one. The SteepleCats' only other no-no came in 2007 from Nick McNully against Manchester.
