Coach Keith Tozer: Now in his 12th season as Head Coach of the Wave (his 20th overall as a professional head coach) Keith Tozer is the winningest coach in the 25-year history of North American indoor soccer. Tozer, who became the first and only coach to reach the 500 win plateau on 4/12/02, currently sports a combined regular and post-season record of 545-345 (.612), including a 326-176 mark (.649) as coach of the Wave. The 46-year old Grosse Pointe, MI native, who is also Milwaukee's Vice President â Soccer Operations overseeing both the Wave indoor and Wave United outdoor teams, began his coaching career as a player-coach with the Louisville Thunder in 1984 following a six-year career in the original MISL. He has led Milwaukee to three league titles and five championship series appearances in the last six seasons. He is also a five-time NPSL / MISL Coach of the Year award winner (1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2003.)
Wave Notes: *The Wave is now 108-35 (.755) in its last 143 regular and post-season outings.
*The Wave's 12-3 record represents Milwaukee's best 15-game start in the club's 20-year history. The Wave had been 11-3 on four previous occasions prior to this season, but had failed each time to go 12-3.
*The 12/31 contest v. Monterrey was Coach Keith Tozer's 500th game as coach of the Wave. Now in his 12th season with Milwaukee, Tozer is just the third coach in North American indoor soccer history to guide one team for as many games. Only Kenny Cooper (751 games with Baltimore) and Ron Newman (701 games with San Diego) have coached more games with a single franchise.
*Assistant Coach Steve Morris made his professional head coaching debut on 12/6 @ Bal. He stepped in for Keith Tozer, who was coaching the U.S. Futsal Team in Anaheim, CA.
*Milwaukee's 9-8 (OT) loss on 12/6 @ Bal broke a five-game overtime winning streak for the Wave dating back to the 2001-02 campaign. Milwaukee was 4-0 in extra-session games last year and 1-1 the year before.
*The Wave's 6-5 (OT) win over SD on 1/2 @ Mil improved the Wave's overtime record to 1-1 this season and 25-30 all-time, including 18-10 at home.
*The 15 goals on 11/14 v. KC is the fourth highest total in team history. The Wave team record for most goals in a contest is 18, set on 12/6/98 v. Cle.
*Troy Dusosky and Marcelo Fontana each scored a goal to record the 150th point of their respective careers in Milwaukee's 6-2 win over Monterrey on 12/31 @ Mil.
*The Wave's "Twin Tandem" - Todd and Troy Dusosky - has now combined for 281 goals (Todd 194 + Troy 87) and 296 assists (Todd 231 + Troy 65) for 577 points (Todd 425 + Troy 152), good for ninth on the MISL's all-time brothers scoring list. The Marinaros (Hector 1895 + Rob 8 = 1903) are the highest scoring brother pair followed by the Pikuzinskis (Rudy 931 + Randy 725 = 1656). The Dusoskys (Todd 376 + Troy 63 = 439) are also the highest scoring brother pair in Wave history ahead of the White brothers (Pat 162 + Erik 9 = 171).
*Despite getting shut-out in five games so far this season, Joe Reiniger has tallied at least one point in 340-of-358 career NPSL / MISL regular season contests. Reiniger still holds the league's second longest scoring streak at 105 straight games.
*Greg Howes current indoor consecutive games played streak is currently 140 straight (regular season and playoffs). It's the Wave's longest active streak, and the third longest streak in team history following Michael King (161) and current Wave Assistant Coach Steve Morris (155). Howes was shut-out for the only time this season on 1/2 v. SD.
*Goalkeeper Dan Green equaled his career-best 60 minute performance by allowing just one goal on 11/7 v. Mon. Green had previously allowed just one goal on 12/7/01 @ Bal. The Waukesha, WI native has won five straight decisions and currently tops the league with a 3.87 GAA.
*Goalkeeper Nick Vorberg suffered an ankle injury in practice three weeks ago and remains questionable for this week's action. The 28-year old netminder, who was acquired by the Wave in the off-season trade that sent Victor Nogueira to San Diego, is off to a fine start in Milwaukee with a 5-2 record to go along with a 4.68 GAA.
Last Week's Recap:
12/31 @ Milwaukee Wave 6, Fury 2 Attendance â 6,216
The Wave defeated the Monterrey Fury 6-2 in the annual New Year's Eve Day matinee in front 6,216 fans at the U.S. Cellular Arena. Forward Joe Reiniger paced Milwaukee's attack with a goal and two assists, while goalkeeper Dan Green registered eight saves for his third straight win.
The Wave got on the board first when Reiniger netted his tenth goal of the season at 9:38 of the first quarter off a pass from Todd Dusosky. Monterrey tied the game at 1-1 when Genoni Martinez blasted in a restart goal from the top of the penalty arc. The next goal did not come until 5:54 in the second period when Wave defender Lovelace Ackah scored his first goal of the season off an assist from team co-captain Michael King.
The two teams held one another scoreless until 5:19 in the third quarter when Troy Dusosky scored a power-play-goal off a restart pass from Reiniger; it was also Troy Dusosky's 150th career point. Less than a minute later King scored off an assist from goalkeeper Dan Green to put the Wave ahead 4-1.
Monterrey cut the deficit back to two (4-2) when Marco Lopez converted off an assist by Martinez at 6:46 of the fourth quarter. However, the Wave's Pat White responded, scoring his first goal of the season with an assist from Kevin Burk. Marcelo Fontana wrapped up the scoring his 150th career point when he notched his seventh goal of the season at 13:36.
1/2 @ Milwaukee Wave 6, Sockers 5 (OT) Attendance â 5,664
Giuliano Oliviero's goal 3:32 into overtime was the difference in the match as the Wave edged the San Diego Sockers 6-5 before 5,664 fans at U.S. Cellular Arena. The win also preserved Milwaukee's undefeated streak at U.S. Cellular Arena (7-0) while also ending San Diego's five-game winning streak.
Todd Dusosky put Milwaukee on the board first at 4:18 of the first quarter when he converted a pass from Marcelo Fontana. The Sockers answered with a pair of goals from Kevin Legg (9:19) and Paul Wright (12:23), the latter scoring on a power play after a hand-ball penalty against Milwaukee goalkeeper Dan Green.
After a scoreless second quarter, Milwaukee tied it up on an own goal by Sockers defender David Beltran that was credited to Wave forward Greg Howes. San Diego regained the lead on a goal by Mauricio Alegre at 7:04, but Milwaukee evened the score again on a tally by Matt Schmidt at 11:09.
Todd Dusosky's second goal of the match just 10 seconds into the fourth quarter put Milwaukee up 4-3. However, Alegre answered with his second at 4:23 to it at 4-4. The Wave's Joe Reiniger scored on a restart blast at 6:46 to put Milwaukee on top 5-4, but San Diego responded again as Mariano Bollella scored off a lead feed from Paul Wright to even the count (5-5) at 11:59.
San Diego goalkeeper Victor Nogueira, who was making his first regular season appearance in Milwaukee since being traded to the Sockers this past off-season, made a great save on Chris Morman in the first minute of overtime to preserve the tie. However, Oliviero converted on a turning one-time blast from 30 feet after a long-header into the attacking zone by Troy Dusosky. Wave goalkeeper Dan Green stopped 10-of-14 shots faced to earn the win.
1/4 @ Monterrey Wave 6, Fury 2 Attendance: 12,081
The Wave's first trip to Mexico ended in successful fashion as Milwaukee topped the Fury 6-2 for the second time in five days. Forward Greg Howes had two goals and an assist to pace the Wave offensively while goalkeeper Dan Green anchored another strong defensive effort by stopping 16-of-18 shots faced.
Matt Stewart's goal from Todd Dusosky at 5:39 of the third quarter proved to be the game-winner as the Wave tallied five unanswered goals to rally from an early 2-1 deficit. Howes capped off the scoring with Milwaukee's first short-handed goal of the season on another assist by Todd Dusosky at 5:46 of the fourth quarter.
