St. Louis Steamers at Baltimore Blast

1st Mariner Arena, 7:35 p.m. ET

The Steamers' brief two-game winning streak is on the line Friday in Baltimore, where the Blast is 7-2 this season. Baltimore is also riding a two-game winning streak. The Blast is 2-0 against the Steamers this season.

Monterrey Fury at San Diego Sockers

San Diego Sports Arena, 7:00 p.m. PT

Monterrey will be seeking its first win against the Sockers this season (0-2) and looking to end a four-game losing streak. San Diego is 6-4 at home this season and 5-2 against Western Division opponents. This game was originally scheduled for October 31, but was postponed due to the wild fires in the San Diego area at that time.

Dallas Sidekicks at Baltimore Blast

1st Mariner Arena, 7:35 p.m. ET

Baltimore and Dallas have split their first two meetings this season, with both clubs winning a game at home. Both contests have been decided by one goal.

Philadelphia KiXX at Kansas City Comets

Kemper Arena, 7:35 p.m. CT

The Comets suffered a 13-8 loss the last time the KiXX came to town, on November 28. Philadelphia is one of three teams in the MISL with a road record above .500; the Comets are 2-5 at Kemper Arena. (more)

Milwaukee Wave at San Diego Sockers

San Diego Sports Arena, 7:00 p.m. PT

The Wave is a perfect 2-0 against the Sockers in 2003-04, but both victories have come by one goal.

Dallas Sidekicks at Philadelphia KiXX

Wachovia Spectrum, 1:05 p.m. ET

The Sidekicks complete their East Coast swing on Sunday at the Wachovia Spectrum, where the KiXX are 4-2 this season. Dallas won the only previous meeting of the season between these sides, taking an 8-4 decision on October 22 at Reunion Arena.

Kansas City Comets at Cleveland Force

CSU Convocation Center, 3:05 p.m. ET

The Comets and Force meet for the first time in 2003-04. Cleveland has dropped five straight games entering the week, and is 2-4 at home.

St. Louis Steamers at Monterrey Fury – POSTPONED

The MISL has announced that the game between the Fury and Steamers originally scheduled for Sunday, January 11, has been postponed due to the Special Summit of the Americas, which be held beginning January 12 and utilize the Arena as its press center. A rescheduled game date will be announced after League, team, and Arena officials confer.

The game was highlighted by Milwaukee's stifling defense which allowed only 10 shots, eight of which were saved by Dan Green. His counterpart Hector Mireles faced 19 shots, saving 13. Monterrey was held scoreless through the second and third quarters. Greg Howes led the Wave with two goals and an assist, and eight additional players contributed an assist or goal.

Notes: In the final game of 2003, the Comets lost a thriller in overtime to the Sidekicks. The game was decided at the 1:10 mark in overtime when David Doyle put one in the back of the net for his second score of the game. Doyle also contributed an assist. The Comets maintained pace with Dallas throughout the game thanks in part to two goals contributed by both Nate Houser and Dino Delevski. The loss was Kansas City's first overtime loss of the season.

The Wave's offensive attack was led by Todd Dusosky (two goals), while Giuliano Oliviero provided the winning goal in overtime. The Sockers offensive leader was Mauricio Alegre, with two goals and an assist.

Notes: The KiXX dropped to 4-2 at home and fell a full game behind the Blast in the Eastern Conference race with a loss to the Steamers. St. Louis managed to redeem an early season loss with this victory over Philadelphia. The three goals provided by Mark Thomas and the six goals the Steamers scored in the third quarter proved too much for the KiXX to overcome. The road win was the second of the season for the Steamers.

Nick Stavrou scored four goals for the Sidekicks, tying a career high. Kansas City's third game in four nights proved too much for them, especially with the four-goal third quarter posted by the Sidekicks.

This marks the largest margin by which the KiXX have been removed from first place in the East in 2003-04, and only the second time this season they have not occupied the top spot. Defender Pat Morris, who has played in 79 consecutive games, is fifth in the MISL with 29 blocks. Leading scorer Goran Vasic ranks second in the League with 29 points and is first in the MISL with 20 assists. Joel Shanker (19 points, tied for 14th) and Kevin Sloan (18 points, 17th) also rank among the League's top 20 scorers. Goalkeeper Peter Pappas is sixth in the MISL with a 4.94 goals against average, tied for third with eight wins, fourth with 171 saves, and tied for third in save percentage at .738. Notes: The Sockers dropped their two games last week to fall back to .500 and slip two games behind the Dallas Sidekicks in the West. On Tuesday, Sean Bowers was named the League's Defensive Player of the Month and Victor Nogueira earned Goalkeeper of the Month honors. Bowers has now scored 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) on the season, and leads the MISL with 47 blocks. Nogueira is tied for second in the League with a 4.33 goals against average, ranks second in both minutes played (956) and saves (194), and is tied for third with a .738 save percentage. The Sockers' defense remains the best in the MISL, allowing an average of 4.4 goals per game. San Diego hosts Monterrey this Friday and the Wave this Saturday.

LEAGUE NOTES

- The Baltimore Blast will induct long-time coach Kenny Cooper and former standouts Stan Stamenkovic and Mike Stankovic into the Blast Hall of Fame prior to Saturday's game at 1st Mariner Arena against the Dallas Sidekicks.

- Milwaukee's Greg Howes, who was named Offensive Player of the Month for December on Tuesday, has now played in 140 consecutive games (including the regular season and playoffs). Philadelphia's Pat Morris has played in 79 straight regular season games.

- The Monterrey Fury has drawn a total of 59,667 fans to its first four games at Monterrey Arena for an average of 11,933 fans per game.

- The game originally scheduled for Monterrey Arena this Sunday, January 11, between the Fury and St. Louis Steamers has been postponed due to the Special Summit of the Americas, which will begin on January 12 and utilize the Monterrey Arena as its press center.
