Milwaukee Wave News Release
Milwaukee, WI (Friday, January 21, 2005) â The Milwaukee Wave, of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), announced today that a 15-day/5 game contract has been signed by midfielder, Hewerton Moreira â known as Hewerton, pronounced ever-ton â who was recently selected from the San Diego Sockers in the January 5 Dispersal Draft. Forward Greg Howes has been placed on the 15-day inactive list, beginning January 15, because of his responsibilities with the U.S. Men's National team. This opened a spot on the roster for Hewerton through the last day of the agreement, February 4.
As the second round, 14th overall pick in the January 5 Dispersal Draft, the 25-year-old brings the promise of great potential during his rookie season. Drafted as a midfielder from San Diego, Hewerton played in 10 games, scoring five goals and one assist, for six points in 2004. Originally from Santos, Brazil, Hewerton joins fellow Brazilian Ricardinho as a new member of the Wave. Ricardinho and Hewerton are the first two players signed in the Dispersal Draft, out of 11 total, to prove their athletic skills with the Wave. Hewerton, wearing number 26, will take to the field this Saturday night versus the Cleveland Force at 6 p.m.
The Wave will travel to Chicago on Sunday, January 23 to play the Storm at 3 p.m. and return home on February 4 versus the St. Louis Steamers at 7 p.m. February 4 is also the second "Kicks for Tix" contest. Groups of 25 people or more who have attended a Milwaukee Wave home game between December 31 and the February 4 game are invited to choose a representative from their group to compete in the halftime contest to win two (2) roundtrip tickets courtesy of Midwest Airlines.
