Milwaukee Wave News Release

DETROIT (Jan. 18, 2008) - Greg Howes recorded his third consecutive hat trick, but it wasn't enough to carry the Milwaukee Wave in a 15-14 loss to the Detroit Ignition on Friday night.

Milwaukee trailed 15-8 midway through the third quarter, then got goals from Howes, Anthony Maher and finally Michael King to trail by only one point with 13 minutes still remaining. The rally died, however, when Milwaukee took a two-minute penalty for having too many men with only 2:51 left. The Wave managed a shorthanded opportunity, but weren't able to score the go-ahead goal.

The loss ends a four-game winning streak for the Wave (11-5), who fell into second place, a half-game behind Detroit (11-4). Milwaukee played without veteran defender Troy Dusosky, who stayed behind in Milwaukee due to a knee injury.

Howes stretched his PUMA Points Championship Lead to 17 points over Dino Delevski; he has 69 points this season. Howes hammered in a 3-point goal 4:35 into the first quarter to give Milwaukee the lead. Howes then scored his 27th goal of the season with another 2-point goal on a nice feed from Deco, but the Ignition scored with just 6 seconds left in the quarter to take a 7-5 lead.

Detroit also scored with only 4 seconds to go in the second quarter, a goal that made it 13-8.

The Wave's next matchup is next Friday against the Baltimore Blast. Come see the Wave's next home game at 2 p.m. on Jan. 27 against the Chicago Storm. The first 3,500 fans 14 and under will receive a soccer-playing Mr. Potato Head, courtesy of Aurora Quickcare. It's also Retro Day with 97.3 The Brew. Call (414) 224-9283 to get the best available seat for only $12.
