Philadelphia KiXX News Release

Philadelphia, PA, January 18, 2008 - The defending MISL Champion Philadelphia KiXX (7-9) dropped one spot in the standings after falling to the Chicago Storm (10-5) 14-8 at the Sears Centre. The Baltimore Blast, who the KiXX host for John Barry Nusum Bobble Head on January 19, defeated the Monterrey La Raza 10-9 to move ahead of the KiXX in the standings. The Storm jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter, which the KiXX could not overcome. Keeper Peter Pappas left the game at the end of the first half after taking a shot to the face from close range.

Ian Bennett began scoring for Chicago on his fourth of the season, set up by Storm assist leader Mariano Bollella, his 12th helper. Matthew Stewart's team-leading 12th of the season put the Storm up 4-0, followed by John Ball's third goal. Stewart scored again with 3:58 remaining in the first quarter, giving the Storm an 8-0 lead they would never surrender.

John Barry Nusum finally put the KiXX on the board with his fourth goal in 12 games 2:29 into the second quarter. Nusum will represent the KiXX Bobble Head this year, which will be given out at the January 19 game at the Wachovia Spectrum. Just 30 seconds later, Andy Rosenband negated Nusum's goal with his third of the season, putting the Storm up 10-2. Rosenband would go on to set up Branko Savic's fifth goal to give Chicago a 12-2 lead heading into half time. With 2:43 remaining in the half, KiXX keeper Peter Pappas took a ball in the face and had to leave the game with an eye injury. Nick Hovaker would take his place in net for the rest of the match.

Wendell Regis scored first in the second half, an unassisted goal at 5:52, his third of the season. Regis played in the 300th game of his 12-year career on January 12 vs. Orlando, a game the KiXX won 20-4 during which Regis tallied a two-pointer.

Nusum would cut the Storm's lead in half just over a minute into the fourth quarter with his second of the night. Ian Bennett's buried his second of the night with six minutes left, before Pat Morris scored his ninth of the season on a penalty shot against backup keeper Jim Larkin. Storm starting keeper Jeff Richey was charged with a tripping call that led to Morris' two-pointer. The Storm outshot the KiXX 37-19.
