Quick start lifts Storm past KiXX
January 18, 2008 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Chicago Storm News Release
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Thanks to a barrage of first-quarter shots falling in the back of the net, the Chicago Storm put away the Philadelphia KiXX early en route to a 14-8 victory in Major Indoor Soccer League play Friday at the Sears Centre Arena.
Matthew Stewart scored two goals and assisted another for the Storm (10-5), who improved to 5-4 at home. The defending MISL champion KiXX fell to 7-9 overall. Chicago rookie Ian Bennett scored two goals and added an assist, as well, in front of a Sears Centre crowd of 3,480 and a live Fox Soccer Channel broadcast. In Chicago's only other FSC game, the Storm fell to Detroit, 25-7.
Next up for the Storm is a 7 p.m. home match Friday, Jan. 25, against the Detroit Ignition. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Jeff Richey made nine saves for the Storm. Philadelphia's Peter Pappas and Nick Hovaker split time in the net after a Pappas injury late in the first half. Pappas and Hovaker each had nine saves, and Aaron Susi made two saves as the sixth attacker in the fourth quarter.
Chicago's Andy Rosenband had a goal and an assist, while Branko Savic netted a second-quarter goal. The Storm scored eight unanswered points to open the game before John Barry Nusum put Philadelphia on the scoreboard at the 2:29 mark of the second quarter.
Wendell Regis and Pat Morris tallied the two other KiXX goals. Morris' two-pointer was on a penalty kick after Richey was called for a tripping penalty in the fourth quarter. Jim Larkin replaced Richey and actually made a save against Morris. But it was waved off after Savic was called for moving too soon. Morris capitalized on the second chance for the power play goal.
