Wave rallies for dramatic 4-3 win over Storm
December 4, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) Forward Greg Howes scored his only goal of the night at 14:14 of the fourth quarter to break a 3-3 tie and propel the Milwaukee Wave to a 4-3 win over the Chicago Storm in a Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) game Saturday night (12/4) at U.S. Cellular Arena. A crowd of 3,124 saw Milwaukee (7-2) rally from a pair of two-goal fourth quarter deficits (2-0 and 3-1) to eventually beat the Storm (5-5) and even the season series between the clubs at two games apiece.
After a scoreless first quarter, Chicago got on the board when Lazo Alavanja intercepted an errant Milwaukee pass and blasted a 30-foot shot past Wave goalkeeper Dan Green. The Storm added another goal at 12:58 of the second quarter when Novi Marojevic found Sandre Naumoski at the back post for a 2-0 lead.
Neither team scored in the third quarter and Storm goalkeeper Danny Waltman maintained his shutout until the Wave's Lovelace Ackah ripped a shot from the top of the penalty area into the net at 3:21 of the fourth quarter. Chicago's Awad Morad answered at 4:10 to make it 3-1, but Milwaukee evened the score on goals by Angel Rivillo (5:11) and Jonathan Greenfield (8:28), the latter set up on a great cross from Howes.
The game-winning sequence began when the Wave was awarded a free kick at midfield with 50 seconds remaining. Chris Morman chipped a ball into the left corner which bounced out to Howes at the edge of the penalty area. While shielding his defender, Howes turned and hit a right footed bouncer just inside the left post to give Milwaukee the lead and the subsequent victory.
Green (2-1) finished with 11 saves on 14 shots faced while counterpart Waltman (5-4) stopped 17-of-21. The two teams square off again on Friday, December 31, 1:05 PM at U.S. Cellular Arena.
