Chicago â The Chicago Storm (5-4) suffered their second home loss of the season to the Monterrey Tigres (1-4) by a final of 6-3 at the UIC Pavilion tonight. The "Yellow and Black" will head to Milwaukee tomorrow night to take on the Wave (5-2) at 6:05 p.m. CT at the U.S. Cellular Arena. The Storm remains in third-place in the Central Division with Milwaukee on top at 6-2 and St. Louis in second at 6-3.
"I don't think we came out to play," said Storm Head Coach and GM Frank Klopas. "They are a good team and they hurt us with restart goals. Genoni Martinez and Marco Lopez are good players for them. We have to make some adjustments, but I feel good with the direction we are going in."
Monterrey defender Genoni Martinez recorded the first goal of the game at 6:10 in the first quarter on a restart from the right side. Tigres tallied another goal late in the first quarter after Martinez connected with midfielder Marco Lopez off another restart, giving them an early 2-0 lead.
Storm forward Byron Alvarez found midfielder Andy Guastaferro along the right wing and the U.S. Futsal National Team member blasted a shot past Monterrey's goalkeeper Aurelio Portes. The goal came at 2:54 of the second quarter and cut into Tigres' lead 2-1. Guastaferro joined the team today after arriving from Chinese Taipei from the FIFA World Futsal Championship.
Midfielder Novi Marojevic also tallied a goal in the second quarter after he rifled a penalty kick past Portes making the score 3-2. The Storm earned the spot kick when midfielder Chris Carrieri was taken down in the box.
Monterrey kept the pressure high on the Storm and managed to score three more times to record the 6-3 victory. Tigres recorded 14 blocks on Storm shots and Portes made 13 saves to preserve the win.
The Storm will return to the UIC Pavilion on Saturday, December 11 to face two- time defending Baltimore Blast at 7:00 p.m. CT.
