Force Drops Second Game Of Weekend To Blast, 11-7

CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Cleveland Force played host and was defeated by the two- time defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champion and Eastern Division rival Baltimore Blast tonight by a final score of 11-7 at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.

With the loss, the Force lost their seventh straight game dating back to last season versus Baltimore and fell to 3-5 overall, 1-2 versus Eastern Division opponents 0-1 in the season series and 2-4 at home. Cleveland now stands two games game out of the top spot in the Eastern Division trailing the Philadelphia KiXX. With the victory, the Blast improved to 3-6 overall and 1- 2 versus Eastern Division opponents and 2-2 on the road. Baltimore now trails the Force by a half game for second place and 2.5 games to KiXX for first.

The Force jumped out to an early lead (1-0) when forward Adauto Neto took a pass from defender Rene Rivas just past the midfield stripe and dribbled past a Blast defender and then beat Baltimore goalkeeper Brian Rowland for the score just 36 seconds into the first period. The goal marked the third straight game that Neto has tallied a scored since returning from the injured list. The assist was the fourth in two nights for Rivas. The Blast evened the score (1-1) when Giuliano Celenza found the back of the net off the assist from P.J. Wakefield at 4:58. Baltimore took its first lead of the game (1-2) when David Bascome buried a shot from 15-feet out for the score off the assist from Carlos "Chile" Farias at 11:31. Cleveland tied the game for the second time (2-2) when forward Myles Stoddard took the rebound shot of forward Chris Handsor and put it in the back of the net for the tying goal at 12:55. The Force regained the lead (3-2) when forward and Lorain native Chris Dore scorched a shot from beyond the yellow line for the score off the cross from forward Sipho Sibiya at 14:31. The three goals in the first quarter marked a season-high for Cleveland.

The Blast tied the game for the third (3-3) when Marcos Chantel took the ball and hit the far post back across to the back post and in the net for the score at 4:58 of the second quarter. Baltimore regained the lead (3-4) when Celenza notched his second goal of the game off the second assist of the game for Farias at 8:46.

The Blast opened the second half scoring and added to their lead (3-5) when Farias hit a flying kick into the back of the net off the cross from Allen Eller at 10:13 of the third quarter. Cleveland cut into the lead (4-5) when Dore scored his second goal of the game off the assist from midfielder Gary DePalma at 11:22. Baltimore responded on the power play (4-6) as Chantel took the pass from David Bascome and put the ball into the back of the net at 14:07.

The Blast opened the final quarter scoring (4-7) when Farias tallied his fourth point of the game and his second goal off the pass from Billy Nelson at 1:46 of the fourth. Baltimore added to its lead (4-8) when Celenza picked up his first hat trick of the season on his third goal of the game off the assist for Chantel at 2:01. The Blast kept up the scoring attack (4-9) when Machel Millwood found the back of the net off the second assist for Nelson at 2:30. The Force cut into the lead (5-9) when Joel Bailey scored the goal off the first career assist for goalkeeper and Cleveland Heights native Bayard Elfvin at 8:15. Baltimore added to its lead (5-10) when Eller scored the empty net goal against the sixth attacker off the second assist of the game for Bascome at 10:58. Cleveland once again cut into the lead (6-10) when Antonio Sutton tallied the score with the sixth attacker on off the assist from Neto at 11:48. The Blast scored their second empty net goal against the sixth attacker (6-11) when Farias recorded his first hat trick of the season at 13:41. The Force scored the final goal of the game (7-11) when Stoddard scored his second goal of the game off the second assist for Neto at 14:44.

Cleveland will next travel to the City of Brotherly Love on Saturday, December 11 when it will take on the Eastern Division Philadelphia KiXX at the Wachovia Spectrum in the first of four meetings in Philadelphia.
