Milwaukee Wave News Release

(Milwaukee, WI) The Milwaukee Wave (1-1) looks to get back over the .500 mark this upcoming Saturday, November 6th when it hosts the Kansas City Comets (1-0) in a 6:05 PM match at U.S. Cellular Arena. It's the first-of-four meetings this season between Milwaukee and Kansas City, two long-time Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) rivals who will be meeting for the 78th time (regular and post-season) since the series began in 1991-92.

The Wave is attempting to bounce back from a heartbreaking 9-8 overtime loss to the Chicago Storm in Milwaukee's home opener this past Friday (10/29) at U.S. Cellular Arena. Ryan Futagaki's goal at 4:33 of the extra session was the difference, as the Storm avenged an 8-3 loss to the Wave in Chicago the previous Saturday (10/23). Milwaukee was on the verge of winning the contest when Troy Dusosky scored his third goal of the night with just 44 seconds remaining to put the Wave ahead 8-7. However, the Storm answered on a spectacular 6th attacker goal from Chris Carrieri with just 10 seconds left to force overtime and set the stage for Futagaki's eventual game-winner.

The first 5,000 fans who attend Saturday night's contest will receive a 2004-05 Wave Schedule Poster. It's also the Wave Kick-Off for the United Way Campaign Drive, with fans asked to bring new hats and mittens to be collected and distributed to various United Way Agencies.

Tickets for all Wave home games ($20, $16, $14, and $12) are available at the Wisconsin Center District (WCD) Box Office, located between U.S. Cellular Arena and the Milwaukee Theater at 510 W. Kilbourn Ave., all TicketMaster Outlets, or by phone charge at 414-276-4545. Groups of 10 or more should contact the Wave's Group Sales Dept. at 414-224-WAVE (9283) for group rate discounts.

Wave Futsal Contingent Preparing for FIFA World Championship in Chinese Taipei

The U.S. National Futsal Team, coached by Wave Coach Keith Tozer and featuring Wave players Greg Howes, Todd Dusosky, Johnny Torres and Pat White is getting ready for the FIFA Futsal World Championship November 21 – December 5 in Chinese Taipei. The MISL-dominated U.S. squad also includes: Sean Bowers and Steve Butcher (San Diego); Pat Morris, (Philadelphia); Jamar Beasley (Kansas City); John Ball (Cleveland); Andy Guastaferro (Chicago); and recently retired ex-Baltimore goalkeeper Scott Hileman. All but Torres, Butcher, Beasley, and Morris played for the U.S. squad which qualified for the upcoming FIFA tournament by winning the CONCACAF title in Costa Rica this past summer. The U.S. squad is set to depart November 14th and would return November 28th if it does not advance beyond first round pool play. The U.S. is scheduled to play Italy (11/21), Paraguay (11/23), and Japan (11/25) in the first round.

Futsal, the international version of indoor soccer, is a derivative of the outdoor game played with five players on each side (four field players and a goalkeeper) utilizing a limited-bounce ball on an open (wall-less) court slightly bigger than a basketball court. The U.S. Team has now qualified for four-of-five FIFA Futsal World Championships (1989, 1992, 1996, 2004).

Wave on Radio / Internet: All road games may be heard live on 540 AM, WRRD ("The Word") with air time for each broadcast approximately 15 minutes prior to kick-off. All games may be heard live on the Wave website at www.milwaukeewave.com.

Last Outing: 10/29 @ Milwaukee Storm 9, Wave 8 (OT) Attendance – 4,125

Ryan Futagaki's overtime goal at 4:33 of the extra period gave the Chicago Storm (1-1) a 9-8 win over the Milwaukee Wave (1-1) Friday night (10/29) at the U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee, WI. The Storm victory in Milwaukee's 2004-05 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) regular season home opener avenged an 8-3 win by the Wave in Chicago's home opener last Saturday (10/23).

Chris Carrieri's sixth attacker goal with 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter tied the score at 8-8 and gave Chicago its opportunity to win in overtime. Carrieri's goal, a sensational full volley off a rebound from 15 feet away, came just 34 seconds after the Wave's Troy Dusosky had broken a 7-7 deadlock with a bouncing 30 footer just inside the left post. It was Dusosky's third goal of the night and looked to be the game-winner until Carrieri's heroics forced overtime.

Jorge Valle led Chicago's attack with three goals and an assist for four points. Valle scored back-to-back goals late in the third quarter to erase a 7-5 Milwaukee lead. Valle's first goal also ended an initial 3-0 run for the Wave which featured goals from Matt Schmidt, Michael King, and Dusosky. Troy Dusosky also finished with four points on three goals and an assist, while his twin brother Todd had three points (one goal, two assists) before departing near the end of the first half due to a back injury. Danny Waltman (1-0) earned the victory for Chicago by stopping 19-of-27 shots in his MISL debut. Dan Green (0-1) saved 10-of-19 in taking the loss.
