HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL -- Chile Farias and Matthew Stewart each scored a pair of goals to lead the Chicago Storm over the Milwaukee Wave 10-9 Saturday night at the Sears Centre. Milwaukee (1-2) brought on Joe Hammes as the sixth attacker with 2:30 left, when the Wave had a free kick opportunity deep in Storm territory. But on the play, Hammes was called for his fourth foul of the half, attempting to free up Greg Howes. The resulting 2-minute penalty allowed the Storm to kill off all but the game's final 30 seconds.
Howes scored twice for the Wave, who entered the fourth quarter with a 9-8 lead. Howes also had a breakaway opportunity late, just as the Hammes penalty expired, but his shot from the right point slid just wide of the left post.
Milwaukee led 9-8 after Troy Dusosky buried a restart goal with 2:12 remaining in the third period. There was plenty of action in the fourth period but the only points came from the well-traveled Farias, who also had an assist for a five-point night. Nick Vorberg had five saves, as the Wave defense put up nine blocks in front of him. One of Howes' goals was a daring theft of Storm keeper Jeff Richey in the second quarter. He pressured in the back, then darted and just poked the ball right off Richey's foot and into the net. That put Milwaukee up 7-4 just 52 seconds before halftime. Also scoring for the Wave as Tyrone Gordon with a 3-pointer. The Wave return to the U.S. Cellular Arena on Saturday to host the Orlando Sharks at 7 p.m. It's the third annual Spirit Competition, and championship youth soccer teams will be able to meet Olympic gold medalist and Wisconsin native Bonnie Blair in the pregame "Parade of Champions." Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or by calling the Wave at (414) 224-9283.
