Martinez has a career total of 17 points scored against California including five two-point goals and seven assists. Two of his five goals counted during power play opportunities, one came off a restart. The 32 year-old, four time All-Star, has played in five games against the Cougars in his nine year MISL/NPSL career. Martinez was the first pick of the 2003 dispersal draft, he was signed by Monterrey. He has won the MISL Defender of Year Award five times in his career (2002-03, 2003-04, 2005-06, 2006-07). Martinez has earned all league honors seven times, 5 as a First Team Player, once on Second Team list and one time on the Third team list.
Forward Dino Delevski enters his ninth season in the MISL/NPSL, and his first in Monterrey. The former Philadelphia Kixx forward has 13 points in his career against the Cougars, including 10 points last season. He found the back of the net three times and assisted a teammate on a score four times against California during the 2006-07 season. Delevski is a two-time MVP (2002-03, 2001-02), and a 20 time MISL Player-of-the-Week.
Former Cougar defender Neil Gilbert is also a member of the Monterrey squad this year. The 37 year-old Los Angeles native played in just seven games for the Cougars in the 2005-06 season, he finished with one goal and six blocks in three starts. Gilbert did not play last season.

The Storm was caught for just seven total fouls in their win against La Raza. Monterrey's second game saw 21 total fouls in the game, but just five from La Raza. Don't call it a comeback:
La Raza is the third incarnation of the Monterrey franchise in the MISL. The Monterrey Fury were the original MISL Monterrey franchise in 2003-04, they lasted just one year with a record of 10-26. Cougars Assistant Coach/Defender Antonio Sutton played for the Fury for 10 games, before being traded to Cleveland. In 2004 the MISL Monterrey project began but lasted just 6 games, that team posted a 1-5 record in the 2004-05 season before folding. Monterrey has also had teams in the CISL from 1993-97 and one squad in the WISL during the 1999-2000 seasons.
