Milwaukee Wave News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) Forward Greg Howes registered his team record seventh hat trick of the season (three goals scored) as the Milwaukee Wave defeated the Philadelphia Kixx 7-2 Friday night (4/2) in a Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) contest before 7,747 fans at U.S. Cellular Arena. The win extended Milwaukee's winning streak to three straight games and enabled the Wave (26-9) to split the season series with the Kixx (19-16) at two games apiece.
The Wave got off to a quick start with a pair of goals from Todd Dusosky (2:44) and Johnny Torres (3:41) early in the first quarter. Philadelphia answered on a goal by Tony McPeak at 14:16 to make 2-1 heading into the second quarter.
Howes scored the only goal of the second period on an assist from Torres at 11:23. Milwaukee extended its lead on third period goals by Giuliano Oliviero (11:13) and Howes (13:45), who scored on a power play following a tripping penalty to Philadelphia's Ze Roberto.
Milwaukee iced the game in the fourth quarter on goals by Marcelo Fontana (7:26) and Howes (11:31), the latter coming on a power play after holding penalty against Kixx player-coach Don D'Ambra. Les Lunsford closed out the scoring with a power play goal at 14:07.
Wave goalkeeper Dan Green (17-3) turned in another stellar performance as he claimed the win by stopping 16-of-18 shots faced. Peter Pappas (16-12) saved 11-of-18 in taking the loss.
The Wave concludes the 2003-04 regular season tomorrow night (Saturday, April 3, 6:35 PM CST) when it battles the defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast (25-10) at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, MD. A Wave victory or Blast win by less than four goals would give Milwaukee the regular season championship and #1 seed for the upcoming MISL playoffs. Air time for the radio broadcast on 540 AM, WRRD ("The Word") will be 6:15 PM.
The Wave begins playoff action on Friday, April 16, 7:35 PM at U.S. Cellular Arena when Milwaukee hosts a one-game semi-final match-up against an opponent to be determined (Dallas, Philadelphia, Kansas City, or Cleveland). The winner of that contest advances to the best-of-five MISL Championship Series beginning the following weekend.
Individual play-off tickets ($20, $16, and $14) as well as Wave Playoff 4-Packs (two dollar discount per ticket) are available through the Wave Office at 510 W. Kilbourn Ave. (Suite B), or by calling 414-224-WAVE (9283). Anyone who purchases a Wave Playoff 4-Pack will also receive two tickets for the Milwaukee Wave United A-League (outdoor) season opener on Friday, May 14, 7:05 PM v. the Edmonton Aviators at Uihlein Soccer Park.
