League Rules Fury's Use of Ineligible Players Unintentional

April 2, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Monterrey La Raza News Release

(Westport, Conn., April 2, 2004) – Following a face-to-face hearing with Monterrey team management, the Major Indoor Soccer League concluded today that the Fury did not deliberately or intentionally use ineligible players in official MISL regular season matches. Fury Management will not incur any further disciplinary actions in relation to the League's March 18 ruling that the Fury used ineligible players resulting in the forfeiture of four (4) MISL matches this season. However, because ineligible players did participate in those matches, the League's initial ruling regarding the forfeiture of those four games will stand.

"After reviewing all documents and facts presented by Monterrey Fury President Eduardo Alonso and Jose Gonzalez, Vice President of Operations for the Fury, the League concluded that there was no willful intent on anyone's part to circumvent the rules and that no additional punitive actions are necessary," said MISL Commissioner Steve Ryan.

As the League initially ruled on March 18, in accordance with MISL regulations, the forfeited games will be reflected in the overall regular season MISL standings. The four games forfeited by Monterrey include: a 7-6 overtime victory in Philadelphia on January 24; a 5-3 victory in Cleveland on February 6; a 6-3 victory in St. Louis on February 12; and a 5-4 overtime victory versus Cleveland on March 7.

The Major Indoor Soccer League is a single-entity organization featuring a coast-to-coast presence with eight teams located across the United States and a ninth team in Monterrey, Mexico. On February 27, the League announced an expansion team in Stockton, CA, set to begin play in 2005-06. The MISL is the single major league of indoor soccer, playing a 162-regular season game schedule that concludes on April 5, 2004.
