Force Falls To Baltimore In Final Regular Season Meeting

BALTIMORE, MD. – The Cleveland Force traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to take on the defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) and Eastern Division Champion Baltimore Blast in an Eastern Conference showdown. The Force was defeated by the Blast by a final score of 8-3 at the 1st mariner Arena

With the loss, the Force snapped a four game winning streak and fell to 15-20 overall, 0-6 in the season series, 1-10 versus Eastern Division opponents and 5-12 on the road. With the victory, the Blast improved to 25-10 overall, 11-0 in Friday night action, 9-3 versus Eastern Division opponents and 15-2 at home.

Cleveland opened the scoring (1-0) when Lee Edgerton took a shot that bounced off Baltimore goalkeeper Scott Hileman right to Joel Bailey who tapped the ball in the back of the net at 2:24 of the first quarter. The Blast tied the game just 10 seconds later (1-1) when Chris Handsor scored the restart goal off the pass from Danny Kelly at 2:34. Baltimore took its first lead of the game (1-2) when Denison Cabral scored the restart goal off the assist from Carlos "Chile" Farias at 5:00. The Blast added to their lead (1-3) when Allen Eller scored the goal off the pass from Lee Tschantret at 10:22.

The Force cut into the lead and ended a 3-0 run by Baltimore (2-3) when Everson Maciel scored the unassisted goal at 1:21 of the second quarter. The goal marked the first career MISL goal and point for Maciel. The Blast responded (2-4) when Cabral scored his second goal of the game on the power play off the cross from Tarik Walker at 5:00. Baltimore added to its lead (2-5) when Farias scored the unassisted goal at 6:19. The Blast kept the scoring attack going (2-6) when P.J. Wakefield when found the back of the net off the pass from Eller at 11:09. Baltimore added to its lead (2-7) when Farias scored his second goal of the game at 12:05. The Blast closed out the first half scoring (2-8) when Tschantret found the back of the net off the cross from Giuliano Celenza at 13:44.

The two teams battled to a scoreless third period. The scoreless third period marked the ninth time this season Cleveland went without a goal, the third time both teams were unable to find the back of the net and the 12th time the Force held their opponent without a goal.

The Force got the lone goal of the second half (3-8) when Lee Edgerton found the back of the net off the pass from sixth attacker Hector Marinaro at 14:51 of the fourth quarter.

Cleveland will conclude the regular season tomorrow night Saturday, April 3 when they travel to on to Philadelphia Pennsylvania to take on the Philadelphia KiXX at the Wachovia Spectrum.
