
KiXX drop third straight with 7-2 loss in Milwaukee

Milwaukee, WI, April 2, 2004 â The Philadelphia KiXX (19-16) dropped their third consecutive decision with a 7-2 loss to the League-leading Milwaukee Wave (26-9) in front of 7,477 fans at the U.S. Cellular Arena tonight. Greg Howes registered the game winner on a dish from Johnny Torres at 11:23 of the second quarter. Peter Pappas (23-11) took the loss between the posts for Philadelphia, stopping 11 of the 14 shots he faced, while Dan Green improved to 17-3 with 13 saves on 15 chances for the Wave.
Milwaukee jumped to an early 2-0 advantage on goals from forward Todd Dusosky and midfielder Johnny Torres, but KiXX defender Tony McPeak concluded the first period of play with an unassisted notch at 14:16 to pull Philadelphia within one, 2-1. Dusosky connected with teammate Leighton O'Brien at 2:44, while Torres knocked in a pass from Matthew Stewart at 3:41.
Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) points-leader Greg Howes tallied the only score of the second quarter on a feed from Torres at 11:23. The Wave held a 3-1 lead entering the half.
The Wave extended their lead to four, 5-1, with a pair of unanswered goals in the third stanza. Guiliano Oliviero struck first on a feed from defender Lovelace Ackah at 11:13. Howes followed suit with a power-play goal from Oliviero at 13:45; Howes' second notch of the contest marked the 150th tally of his indoor career. Milwaukee received the one-man advantage after KiXX midfielder Ze Roberto received a two-minute tripping infraction. Philadelphia, winless (0-13) when trailing after three quarters of play, entered the final period behind the Wave, 5-1.
Marcelo Fontana registered a goal from Chris Morman at 7:26 of the fourth period, continuing Milwaukee's scoring spree. After Philadelphia's player/coach Don D'Ambra was sent to the penalty box for a two-minute holding infraction, Howes completed the hat trick with his third notch of the evening, his second on the power play, at 13:31 of the stanza to extend the Wave advantage to 7-1. Les Lunsford connected with Roberto on the power play to pull the club within five at 14:07, but the Wave held on to earn a 7-2 victory.
Philadelphia concludes the 2003-04 regular season by entertaining former player/coach Omid Namazi and the Cleveland Force on Saturday, April 3. The club will celebrate "Fan Appreciation Night" on April 3, with great prizes from Citizens Bank, Wissahickon, Dave & Buster's and countless other organizations given away throughout the entirety of the contest.
