When the Major Indoor Soccer League schedule came out in late August, no one could have dreamed that the Wave's first international trip of the season would coincide with perhaps the biggest Packers game in 10 years.
Yet Thursday's game is also important for the Wave (2-2), who seek their first road victory of the year in an environment known for being hostile. Monterrey (1-4) has averaged 7,250 fans for their first two home games and is led by Genoni Martinez, a four-time MISL Defender of the Year.
Milwaukee is proving to be one of the best defensive teams in the league, allowing just 9.5 points per game. Goalkeeper Nick Vorberg is among the league leaders in every statistical category. Forwards Greg Howes and Marcio Leite share the team lead with 11 points each.
Tom Wynn will be calling the action from Arena Monterrey beginning at 9 p.m.; note the change from the original time of 8:35 p.m. You can listen live at www.milwaukeewave.com by clicking on the Teamline link at the left of the page.
Then don't forget Saturday's home contest against that same Monterrey outfit beginning at 6 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Arena. It's the WMIL/Stein Gardens and Gifts Teddy Bear Toss for Toys for Tots. Following the game, fans can come on the field for our Faith and Family Night program, featuring talks from Wave forward Anthony Maher and Team Chaplain Casey Seymour. The night concludes with the Christian improv comedy of Fish Sticks.
Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling the Wave at (414) 224-9283.
