Watson named to USL-1 Team of the Week
June 23, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
North Carolina FC News Release
Carolina midfielder Matt Watson was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 11, the USL-1 announced Tuesday.
Watson scored his first goal of the season in Friday's 1-1 draw at Austin. He became the 11th player to score for the RailHawks this season, and he is also the 10th different player to be named to a Team of the Week.
"He's one of the best players in our league that I've seen when he's playing his best," said Carolina coach Martin Rennie. "And that was a really good goal he scored. But also, his overall contribution was good through the whole game. He deserves it and I think he'll probably get in there some more if he keeps doing that."
Watson scored his goal in the 17th minute on Friday. He took a ball on the left flank from Josh Gardner, raced by the defense and beat Austin goalkeeper Sam Reynolds from 15 yards out.
Watson and the RailHawks (7-3-3) return to USL-1 play on Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park against the Puerto Rico Islanders. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the LGFCU Box Office weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., by contacting 919-859-5425 or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com.
