The Watertown Wolves looked to reclaim the top spot in the Federal Hockey League standings as they hosted the Berkshire Battalion at the Watertown Municipal Arena.
The Wolves came out hungry for the win, scoring their first 3 goals in the span of a minute and six seconds. Cody Dion scored the first of these 3 on a pass from Stanislav Vlasov just over the 3-minute mark. New Wolf Bent Patry scored the second four minutes in. Chad Bennett got the third goal ten seconds later. Berkshire hoped to change the momentum by switching out goalie Steve Messina for emergency goal tender Bobby Bowden. Dion's second goal came five and a half minutes into the game. Phil Bronner also earned 2 goals to bring the Wolves' lead to 6-0 at the end of the first period.
Watertown continued to dominate in the second period. Cody Dion earned a hat trick 2 on the night minutes into the period. The Battalion held off the Wolves' offense for a majority of the period, but Watertown wore them down. Chad Bennett scored with four minutes left in the period. Watertown's last two goals of the period came from Cody Dion, bringing his total for the night to 5. Watertown's lead at the end of the second period was 10-0.
Berkshire would start the third period with switching back to goalie Steve Messina. Chad Bennett picked up a hat trick with six and a half minutes left in the period and scored his fourth goal four minutes later. Phil Bronner got his hat trick third goal with just twelve seconds left in the period. The Wolves devoured the Battalion 13-0. Watertown goalie Jo St. Pierre earned the shut out on goal blocking 50 shot on goal.
The 3 stars of the game went to Jo St. Pierre, Cody Dion and Chad Bennett. Tonight's win places Watertown back on top of the Federal Hockey League standings.
The 1st place Watertown Wolves' next home game will be against the Berkshire Battalion at the Watertown Municipal Arena on Saturday, February 28th. The puck drops at 7:35.
