
Waterloo's Three Goals in Third Beat Storm 3-1

WATERLOO, Iowa - Three unanswered goals in the third period lead the Waterloo Black Hawks past the Tri-City Storm 3-1 at Young Arena. The two teams will meet in the first round of the 2012 Clark Cup Playoffs following Friday night's USHL results.
Waterloo (34-19-6, 74 pts - 3rd in Western Conference) got the first opportunity to score the opening goal, as LW Taylor Cammarata was awarded a penalty shot after being taken down at the 9:18 mark in the first period. However, Cammarata shot the puck wide to the left on his attempt that kept the game scoreless.
Tri-City (25-33-1, 51 pts - 6th in Western Conference) scored with less than three minutes left in the first period on RW Tim Lappin's sixth goal of the season from LW Jared Linnell and C Nick Lappin.
After a scoreless second period, the Black Hawks would score three goals in the final period to beat the Storm, as RW Scott MacDonald, RW Jamie Hill and C Tony Cameranesi each scored in the final period. Hill's goal proved to be the game-winning goal at the 10:11 mark, while MacDonald scored 3:46 into the period and Cameranesi scored his 18th of the season with 3:12 left in regulation.
It was only the second time this season that Storm have lost a game when leading after two periods, as Tri-City is 19-2-0 when carrying a lead into the third period this season.
G Christian Frey (3-7-1), who made his debut with Tri-City made 32 saves on 35 shots, including the first 24 saves in the game before allowing a goal in the loss for the Storm. G Stephon Williams (16-15-4) made 14 saves on 15 shots receiving the win for the Black Hawks.
Tri-City finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play, while going 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The Storm are on the road in Sioux Falls Saturday to close out the regular season before the playoffs begin, which will start Monday back in Waterloo. Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air the game Saturday night with the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45 p.m.
Notes: The Storm finished the regular season 1-3-0 against Waterloo. Tri-City's last win in Waterloo was on Oct. 20, 2007 (4-3 OT) and have gone eight-consecutive games without a win at Young Arena. D J.D. Peterson, D Dylan Maller and RW Andrew Dorantes sat out of the game due to injury, while the Storm also rested LW Thomas Nykopp, C Brian Ward, RW Michael Vecchione, and LW Trevor Moore.
