Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

The Waterloo Black Hawks and Cedar Rapids RoughRiders combined to score ten goals in the final 23:31 of Saturday's game, and a Young Arena sellout crowd of 3,168 cheered the Hawks to a 6-4 victory.

More than half of the contest was scoreless; the RoughRiders eventually struck for a marker at 16:29 of the second when Thomas Forgione fired a shot into the net off of a Hawks defender. However, Waterloo would take the lead before intermission. A failed clearing attempt allowed Taylor Cammarata to set up Mike Huntebrinker for a game-tying wrist shot at 17:25. Sixty-eight seconds later, Huntebrinker hit affiliate Justin Kloos with a pass to the high slot, and the Lakeville, Minnesota, native's shot found the top corner over Cedar Rapids goalie Matt McNeely.

Waterloo continued to build on the lead 2:03 into the third as Cammarata fired a shot to the short side. The Hawks were sidetracked briefly as Nick Saracino poked in a goal at 3:12. However, the home team scored the next three, making their lead two scores once again at 4:40 when Ian McCoshen beat McNeely through the five hole. Jamie Hill added to the advantage at 6:43, and Kloos scored his second of the night with 10:42 to play. Dave Middleton found the net twice in the last three minutes, during the power play at 17:10 and then knocking a puck over the goal line with 53.1 seconds remaining.

The Hawks won't have much time to rest after the high-flying victory. They take the ice Monday to begin their Rydell Chevrolet Drive to the Cup, opening a best-of-three playoff series against the Tri-City Storm. Tickets for the 7:05 contest are available now from waterlooblackhawks.com.
