Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Week in Review

The Hawks were on both ends of a lopsided score before squeaking out a close victory to end a three-game weekend. Waterloo's 7-0 decision Friday against the Sioux Falls Stampede was the largest margin of victory in 2011-2012, while Saturday's 6-0 loss to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders matched the largest defeat of the season. Sunday's meeting with the Chicago Steel was the eleventh game this year settled in overtime.

Huntebrinker Hits His Stride

Mike Huntebrinker scored with less than a minute remaining Sunday, forcing overtime and eventually allowing the Hawks to claim a 4-3 win. He is now ninth on the team in scoring with 25 points. Huntebrinker has only been held without a point in three of his last 13 games, accumulating six goals and nine assists in that time. Over the last nine games, all of Huntebrinkers eleven points have been scored at even strength.

OT Overhaul

Waterloo lost their first four overtime games this season. With a shootout decision Sunday, the Hawks have now won the last three games played beyond the end of regulation and five of the past seven. The 5-6 overtime record is a slight improvement over a 5-7 mark last season. No Black Hawk player has scored more than one decisive overtime or shootout goal this season.

Witek Tallies First Goal

Mitch Witek scored his first USHL goal in his 95th career regular season game on Friday. Although he had not previously hit the net, the defenseman has bloomed offensively since arriving in Waterloo just prior to the season. The goal was Witek's 20th point of the year. Before becoming a Black Hawk, he had one assist in 45 games for the Green Bay Gamblers and Chicago Steel.

Hectic Home Schedule

The fifth and final stretch of three games in three days for the Hawks will be played entirely at Young Arena this weekend. Waterloo has not hosted three-in-three all at home since March 7-9, 2003. During that run, the Hawks opened with a 6-1 win versus Sioux Falls, followed by a 5-4 shootout loss to the Des Moines Buccaneers, then a 3-2 shootout win against Green Bay.
