Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Week in Review
The Black Hawks' offense hit its stride with a 6-5 overtime win Friday against the Youngstown Phantoms and an 8-3 follow-up on Saturday in a meeting with the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Vince Hinostroza highlighted the weekend Saturday with a four-goal hat trick, and led the club with a combined six points. Tyler Zepeda added five assists, while Jamie Hill had a goal and three assists. Waterloo's eight goals Saturday matches the team's season-high after consecutive 8-4 wins in November against Team USA and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
Let's Go Streaking!
The Hawks are enjoying their first three-game win streak since late January/early February and have scored 20 total goals during those wins. Last weekend's triumphs, plus a 6-2 victory versus Sioux Falls on March 10th, give Waterloo six or more goals in three consecutive games for the first time since March 17-21, 2009. The Hawks' longest winning streak this winter was a five-game run in mid-November.
Hill Climbs the Ladder
With a goal and two assists Saturday, Jamie Hill has pegged his stats among the franchise's junior era career leaders. The third year veteran now has 30 goals and 44 assists for 74 regular season points. His assist total is part of an eight-way tie for 49th, matching him with former teammate Zach Palmquist, among others. Hill's 74 points tie him with Nick Larson - also for 49th - in that category.
Home Heroics
The Hawks' victory against the Dubuque Fighting Saints Saturday was the 15th win for Waterloo on home ice this season. Waterloo has now earned 15 or more regular season home wins during nine of P.K. O'Handley's ten seasons with the organization. It also guaranteed that the Hawks would finish their longest homestand in more than three seasons above .500. Waterloo is now 3-1-0 after four of five straight at Young Arena.
Three-in-Three Redux
For the fourth time this season, the Black Hawks will play three games in three days. The Hawks will be bidding to finish a three-in-three weekend with multiple wins for the first time in 2011-2012. In their first three tries, they have gone 1-2-0 twice and recorded a 1-1-1 record once. Failing to accomplish that goal on this attempt, the Hawks will have a last opportunity March 30th, 31st, and April 1st.
