Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Sioux Falls, SD-Former Stampede star forward David Eddy signed with the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League today. He signed a two-year, two-way contract with the first year being 2012-13. The contract is reportedly worth $525,000. He becomes the second former Stampede player in as many days to sign an NHL contract, Terry Broadhurst signed with the Chicago Blackhawks yesterday.

"When we were informed that David had elected to forego his senior season we immediately informed his advisor that we wanted to make him a part of the Calgary Flames organization," stated Flames General Manager Jay Feaster on the Flames team website. "David is a hard worker who goes to the high traffic areas on the ice and plays the game with grit and passion. He is the type of player who agitates opponents by the way he battles and competes. He is very strong on his skates and tough to move from in front of the net. At the same time, he has good hands and vision and we like his offensive instincts. We are pleased he has chosen to start his professional career with our organization and we look forward to his continued development."

Eddy was a fan favorite while playing in Sioux Falls during the 2008-09 season where he recorded 56 points (21g, 35a) in 60 games. That season Eddy was named to USHL Prospects/All-Star Game and the USHL All-Rookie Team.

The Woodbury, Minn. native recently completed his junior season at St. Cloud State University. He recorded 30 goals and added 35 assists for 65 points and 81 penalty minutes in 92 games over three seasons with the Huskies.

Eddy is expected to join the Flames top affiliate, the Abbotsford Heat (AHL) for the rest of this season.
