Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Player of the Week Sweep

The Waterloo Black Hawks are the first team to sweep the USHL Player of the Week awards this season. Brock Montpetit, Dan Sova, and C.J. Motte were the league's Offensive, Defensive, and Goalie Players of the Week, announced yesterday. The Hawks managed the same accomplishment last season on March 24th when Craig Smith, Sova, and Parker Milner were all recognized.

Big Winners

Three wins by a three-goal margin in each game last week continued a trend for the Black Hawks this season. Six of the eight victories the Black Hawks have accumulated have been by three goals or more. The Omaha Lancers are the only team with more big wins, finishing nine games with a lead at least that large. The Fargo Force, Green Bay Gamblers, and Sioux Falls Stampede also have six three-plus goal wins.

Motte's Minutes

With four consecutive starts in net, C.J. Motte's total of 742:22 minutes-played is now sixth-most in the USHL. The five goalies Motte trails all skate for teams which have played at least two more games than the Black Hawks. The last time a Black Hawk goalie finished among the top five in minutes-played was 2007-2008, when Matt DiGirolamo racked up 2,437:20, third-most in the league.

Doubling Down Versus Green Bay

The series against the Green Bay Gamblers this weekend marks the fourth consecutive year that the Black Hawks have played consecutive games against the Gamblers. This weekend represents the third time in that span that the games have been on back-to-back nights. When Waterloo has met Green Bay twice in a row in the regular season recently, they have swept the Gamblers, been swept, and split, once each.
