Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Olson, Hawks Both Get Two Points

On Saturday the Black Hawks earned a 4-3 shootout victory against the Tri-City Storm, preserving Waterloo's edge in the USHL Eastern Division. Brett Olson scored Waterloo's first goal early in the second period. It was the first goal of the season for the second-year forward. Eighteen seconds later, Olson assisted on a goal by Josh Turnbull to put the Hawks in front. Waterloo would not trail again for the remainder of the evening.

Road Win Total Matched

Saturday night was the eighth road win for the Black Hawks during 2006-2007. Last season Waterloo posted an 8-19-3 mark away from Young Arena. This year the Hawks have started 8-5-2 in other buildings.

Shootout Streak Snapped

In the third shootout this season, the Black Hawks ended a twelve month shootout drought. The previous shootout win for Waterloo came New Years' Eve 2005, 4-3 against the Chicago Steel. Other teams had taken four shoutouts against the Hawks in that time.

Don't Let Those Records Fool You

Friday's opponent, Sioux Falls, might be at the bottom of the Western Division and hovering near .500 (13-12-2), but if they were in the East, the Stampede would be just a few points from fourth place. Sioux Falls is 6-5-1 against the Eastern Division. The Chicago Steel come to Waterloo Saturday. Although the Hawks might be favored on paper, few visiting teams had more success at Young Arena last year. Lincoln was the only team besides Chicago with at least a point in each game, while only Des Moines (6) had more total points visiting Commercial Street than the Steel (5).
