Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Officials from the Corpus Christi Hooks Baseball Club and the movie "The Open Road" announced today that Whataburger Field will serve as a filming location this Sunday.
Shooting takes place before, during and after the Hooks exhibition game versus the Round Rock Express, with a special new start time of 4:05. Gates open at 2:30. To purchase tickets, go to cchooks.com or call 361-561-HOOK.
Advance reserved seat tickets are $10, general admission $5.
"If fans want to take part in this special day, they need to secure tickets right away," Hooks general manager Michael Wood said. "Demand for both reserved seating and GA is sure to be high."
The Hooks and Express, both owned by Ryan Sanders Baseball, are minor league affiliates of the Houston Astros, with Corpus Christi serving as the Double-A franchise and Round Rock as the Triple-A club.
"We are thrilled about "The Open Road" coming to Corpus Christi and Whataburger Field," Hooks president J.J. Gottsch said. "This is a wonderful opportunity for our fans to be part of the excitement as we roll out South Texas' welcome mat for everyone associated with the picture.
"We're all proud of our facility," Gottsch said. "When you think about it, for a three-year-old venue, Whataburger Field has had an impressive run of significant events in the life of Corpus Christi. This will be another "I was there" event."
Not the first time:
Other movies shot in Corpus Christi include: Pearl Harbor (2001), Selena (1997), The Legend of Billie Jean (1985) and The King (2005).
