BOYDS, Md. (June 20,2013) - The Washington Spirit announced that the team has waived midfielder Ingrid Wells.
Wells, a former All-American at Georgetown University and member of the U.S. under-23 national team, was signed in February prior to the inaugural season of National Women's Soccer League. She played 547 minutes in eight appearances (eight starts).
"This is a difficult decision but one that is best for the club and allows Ingrid to go forward with her career," Spirit General Manager Chris Hummer said. "We wish her nothing but the best, and we thank her for all of her hard work and passion."
Originally selected in the WPS draft, Wells spent the 2012 season with G̮̦teborg FC in Sweden.
The Spirit play next this Sunday at 4:10 p.m. ET on the road against fourth-ranked FC Kansas City (5-4-1). The match will be shown via live stream on the NSWL YouTube channel.
Following another away match against Western New York (5-2-3) on June 28, the Spirit will return home on Wednesday, July 3 to play Kansas City at the Maryland SoccerPlex at 7:30 p.m.
