Washington Spirit Signs Midfielder Andi Sullivan to New Contract

Washington, D.C. - Washington Spirit midfielder Andi Sullivan has re-signed with the team on a new three-year contract with a team option for 2026, the club announced today. The new contract will take effect immediately, replacing Sullivan's current contract which was set to expire after the 2023 season.

In the midst of her sixth year with the Spirit, Sullivan has appeared in 88 regular season matches, contributing five goals and five assists to the club across almost 7,500 minutes played. Sullivan also notably connected on a game-tying penalty kick late in the 2021 NWSL Championship, forcing extra time where the Spirit would earn its first league title. Regarded as one of the top midfielders in the NWSL, Sullivan has regularly earned call-ups to the U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT), totaling three goals and five assists in 44 caps with the side since her first senior team appearance in 2016.

Sullivan is originally from Lorton, Virginia and was a member of the Washington Spirit reserve team before she was drafted by the club with the first overall pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft. Prior to turning pro, Sullivan played college soccer at Stanford University, tallying 20 goals and 19 assists in 87 matches played over four seasons with the Cardinal. Sullivan, a three-year team captain, also earned the MAC Hermann Trophy as the top player in the country following her senior season.

"She has special quality with and without the ball and is an exceptional example of the standards and culture of our team. Extending her tenure with the Spirit was a necessity in ensuring the team's ability to compete for championships."
