Washington Spirit News Release
Washington, D.C. - Washington Spirit goalkeeper Lyza Bosselmann has re-signed with the team on a new three-year contract with a 2027 option, the club announced today. The new contract will take effect immediately, replacing Bosselmann's current contract which had one year remaining with a club option for 2025.
Despite having yet to make her NWSL debut, Bosselmann spent her rookie campaign in 2023 learning behind two greats of the game: two-time NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year Aubrey Kingsbury and two-time Olympic gold medalist Nicole Barnhart.
"I'm so excited to have signed a new contract with the Spirit," said Bosselmann. "The leadership, team culture and Goalkeeper Union are all pivotal pieces in my continued development as well as the future success of this club. I'm incredibly grateful for the Spirit's belief in me and I will continue to bring my best to the team every day."
Bosselmann was drafted by the Spirit with the 28th overall pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft, coming to the club from Gonzaga University. In four seasons with the Bulldogs, she appeared in 62 matches and maintained a goals against average (GAA) of 0.87. Bosselmann also made 182 saves in her collegiate career, stopping almost 80 percent of shots on target. In her senior season, Bosselmann posted her career best GAA (0.72) en route to earning West Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
"Lyza showed tremendous growth and potential as an NWSL goalkeeper throughout her rookie season," said President of Soccer Operations/General Manager Mark Krikorian. "It was important for us to extend her time with the Spirit as she continues to develop as a professional player."
