Washington Spirit News Release
Washington, D.C. - Washington Spirit midfielder Chloe Ricketts has been called up to the United States U-17 Women's Youth National Team for its September camp, U.S. Soccer announced today. Ricketts, who turned 16 this season, and San Diego Wave FC forward Melanie Barcenas will be the first two professional players ever to be called up to the U-17 team this month.
The U.S. U-17 team will hold a ten-day camp in Carson, California featuring two friendly matches against the Japan U-17 team at Dignity Health Sports Park. The two matches, both open to the public, will take place on Friday, September 22 and Sunday, September 24 at 1 p.m. PDT.
Ricketts signed with the Spirit in March 2023, becoming the youngest NWSL player in league history at the time at 15 years, 283 days old. Since joining the club, she has appeared in 17 total matches for the Spirit, tallying a goal and assist in over 600 minutes of action. Ricketts' July 28 goal in a UKG NWSL Challenge Cup match made her the youngest goal-scorer in league history.
