BOYDS, Md - A 39th minute goal by Montgomery County local Joanna Lohman and another defensive clean sheet was all the Washington Spirit (4-0-1, 13 pts.) needed to extend their lead atop the National Women's Soccer League in front of 3,545 fans at Maureen Hendricks Field.
The 1-0 win over Houston Dash (2-2-1, 7 pts.) keep the Spirit remain undefeated with a 3-point lead. Houston was without star U.S. Women's National Team midfielder Carly Lloyd, but fellow USWNT midfielder Morgan Brian started and played 75 minutes.
The Spirit will be on the road for the next three weekends before returning home for a four-game stretch on June 18 when Alex Morgan and the expansion Orlando Pride visit the SoccerPlex. Tickets for the Orlando game have already surpassed 3,000 so fans wishing to secure seats should call 301-337-8579 or visit the Washington Spirit website soon.
