Washington Spirit Announces 24 Player Preseason Roster

Boyds, Md (March 19, 2014) - The Washington Spirit announced today their 24 player preseason roster. The Spirit entered the second week of training camp in full force to prepare for their first preseason match against the University of North Carolina, which will take place at the Maryland SoccerPlex on Saturday, March 22, at 7pm.

Defender Cecilie Sandvej joined the team in training on Tuesday this week. Striker Jodi Taylor joined the team for training this afternoon. Both are excited to join the team and are already getting to know their teammates.

Defender Robyn Gayle and midfielder Diana Matheson of the Canadian Women's National Team are expected to join the team on Thursday. Midfielder Veronica Perez of the Mexican Women's National Team will be joining the team in the next few weeks.

The latest addition to the Spirit family, defender Niki Cross, will be joining the team in June when she completes her commitment to FC Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga.

The Washington Spirit's next preseason matchup is against the University of Virginia on Saturday, March 29. The matches on March 22 and March 29 are free and open to the public. Tickets are still needed and can be obtained at: https://tickets.washingtonspirit.com/

The home opener of the season for the Washington Spirit will be on Sunday, April 13 against the Western New York Flash at 4pm at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
