Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things secured the series victory against the Traverse City Beach Bums in a 3-1 final score victory Thursday night at CONSOL Energy Park. Chase Cunningham (2-0) secured the win on the mound for the Wild Things, surrendering just one run in five innings pitched. Cunningham finished the day with three strikeouts and a 3.18 ERA. Kramer Champlin (1-1) was charged with the loss for the Beach Bums.Â
The Wild Things got out to an early lead in the bottom of the second as David Popkins continued his dominance against Traverse City with a single that would set up a Ricky Rodriguez two run home run, giving the Wild Things a 2-0 lead. Traverse City cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the 4th with an RBI single by Will Kengor, scoring Ryan Bottger.Â
David Popkins again found himself on base with a sliding triple in the bottom of the 4th. A double by Jimmy Yezzo brought in Popkins to extend the lead to 3-1. The Beach Bums threatened to score with the bases loaded in the top of the 5th, but solid defense by the Washington infield prevented any scoring with an inning ending double play.Â
The Washington Wild Things will be on the road starting Friday, May 27th to compete in the first of three series games against the Schaumburg Boomers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30p.m. EDT. You can view the livestream of the game by going to washingtonwildthings.com and selecting "Watch Live."
