The Sun got off to a quick 5-0 start before Janel McCarville roared back and scored four consecutive points, grabbed two steals and blocked a shot in the opening five minutes of the game. Connecticut headed into the break with a 36-26 lead, spearheaded by Tamika Whitmore's 14 points. Shameka Christon netted six points for the Liberty in the half. In the third, the Sun extended its lead 52-34 with a stream of three-pointers before the Liberty fought back with its full court pressure. New York then went on a 20-5 run spanning three minutes to end the quarter and it continued into the first few minutes of the final period. The Liberty came within four points at 56-52, but that was the closest it would get. This year will be the first time since 2002 in the series history that both teams will not play four games.

STRANGE, BUT TRUE: Tonight's game marks the fourth time that New York has played Washington in its second game of the season. It has previously happened in 2003, 2006 and 2007. The Liberty went 2-1 in those matches.
