Washington Wild Things News Release
Lake Erie, OH - The Washington Wild Things poured on seven runs to defeat the Lake Erie Crushers and sweep the series on Sunday afternoon. Â Sam Agnew Weiland earned the win on the mound, surrendering just one run and striking out three in 5.1 innings pitched.
In what seemed to be a pitcher's duel, the game remained scoreless for six straight innings. Ricky Rodriguez and Bryan Haar were both hit by pitches to lead off the top of sixth, putting a runner in scoring position. Logan Uxa followed with a walk to load the bases. Nick Ferdinand finally broke the shutout, delivering an RBI single that brought home Rodriguez and Haar to give the Wild Things a 2-0 lead. Jimmy Yezzo followed with an RBI single of his own, extending the lead to 3-0. Grant Fink broke the game open with a three run home run to extend the lead to 6-0.
The Crushers answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the 6th when Connor Oliver hit a solo shot, cutting the lead to 6-1.
But The Wild Things responded when Yezzo hit a solo shot and extended their lead to 7-1 in the top of the 7th inning.
Lake Erie attempted a comeback when  Jose Barraza singled and set up Connor Oliver's second home run of the night making the score 7-3 in the 8th. But that was all the offense the Crushers could muster.
The Wild Things return home to begin a three game series with the Joliet Slammers, beginning on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 E.D.T. For tickets visit the box office at CONSOL Energy Park or call 724 250 9555.
