The Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced they acquired LHP Craig Snipp in a March 2009 trade with the Sussex Skyhawks of the Can-Am League for RHP Mike Schellinger.

The Lexington, KY native went 8-5 with a 3.94 ERA, striking out 57 batters in 107.1 innings over 18 games in 2008 with Sussex. He went 2-2 with a 3.52 ERA in five starts in July, and he posted a 4-1 record in six August starts for the Skyhawks. He sported a 2-0 record with a 3.00 ERA in three starts versus the Atlantic City Surf. He went 1-1 with a 0.64 ERA in two starts against Brockton and had a 2.13 ERA in three games (1 start) with one complete game versus the Worcester Tornadoes. His win total (8) was third best on the Sussex staff and his ERA (3.94) was second best among Skyhawk starters and fifth best overall on the team. He also was second on the team with 107.1 innings pitched.

He made his professional debut with the Grays (traveling team) of the Can Am League in 2007 after signing as a free agent from the University of Kentucky. He went 2-2 with a 4.02 ERA in 25 games (3 starts) in 53.2 innings pitched striking out 38 and allowing 24 walks and 52 hits in his professional debut.

He went 7-5 with a 3.48 ERA in 16 games (15 starts) with 83 strikeouts and only 25 base on balls in 106 innings pitched during his senior season at Kentucky in 2006. During his junior season in 2005 he went 4-5 in 21 games striking out 38 in 49.1 innings. He was a teammate of former Wild Things pitchers Cory Hahn and Adam Revelette at Kentucky.

Schellinger, who was signed as a free-agent on May 31, 2008, made an immediate impact with the Wild Things, throwing three shutout innings allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three and picking up the win in Washington's 10-6 come from behind victory over Florence at CONSOL Energy Park. The Fayetteville, NY completed the 2008 season with a 9-6 record, and a 3.95 ERA with 84 strikeouts in 114 innings pitched.

The Wild Things also announced they have converted Josh Eachues from a catcher to a pitcher. Eachues was signed by the Wild Things to fill a vacancy in the catching rotation. Prior to being signed by the Wild Things, however, he was with the Philadelphia Phillies organization, where they converted him to a pitcher in the Gulf Coast League Phillies. Eachues pitched for Washington twice in 2008.

The Wild Things open the 2009 season at home on May 22 when they host the Lake Erie Crushers at CONSOL Energy Park. Season ticket packages are available at the box office.
