Warthogs fall in game two, 8-1

Kinston, NC – The Winston-Salem Warthogs (1-1) lost at Kinston, 8-1, Thursday night in game 2 of the Southern Division championship series. Warthogs' starter, Wed Whisler, suffered the loss. Whisler only last a 1/3 of an inning. Whisler gave up five runs on three hits, walked two and hit one batter. Kinston starter, Adam Miller, earned the win. Miller scattered only one hit in six innings and struck out a season high nine.

Kinston took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Indians sent 11 hitters to plate, scoring five runs on only three hits. The Warthogs defense committed three errors, while Wes Whisler walked two and hit another batter. The Indians added to their lead with a run in the third on a two-out, RBI double by Eider Torres. Winston-Salem scored its only run in the top of the eighth. Andy Gonzalez singled, Tommy Nicholson doubled, and Josh Fields walked to load the bases. Ryan Sweeney then walked, forcing in Gonzalez from third.

Kinston added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on a Shaun Larkin two-run home run. Eider Torres, Shaun Larkin, Pat Osborn, and Jonathan van Every each had two hits for Kinston. Andy Gonzalaz, Tommy Nicholson, and Josh Fields had one hit a piece for Winston-Salem.

Winston-Salem and Kinston are tied at one game a piece in the best of three series. The decisive game 3 will be Friday night at 7pm. RHP Kenny Ray will toss for the Warthogs. RHP J.D. Martin will pitch for Kinston. All the play by play will be heard on the internet only at www.warthogs.com.
