Warthogs drop opener at Salem

Winston-Salem, NC – The Winston Salem Warthogs (5-2, 34-43) lost at Salem, 4-3, Thursday night. The 'hogs have lost two straight, but are still 6-2 in their last eight games. Warthogs' reliever, Nik Lubisich, suffered the loss. Lubisich did not record an out in the seventh and gave up an earned run. Salem reliever, Ryan France, earned the win, while Daniel Freeman earned his ninth save. The 'hogs wasted a strong start by Sean Tracey. Tracey left after six innings with a 3-1 lead. At that point his line was six innings and only earned run given up. Instead, Tracey suffered a no decision, but by work of the bull pen he gave up three earned runs.

The Avalanche trailed the Warthogs, 3-1, into the bottom of the seventh when it scored three runs to the take the lead. Josh Anderson tied the game on an RBI single, while Wade Robinson's RBI single, put Salem ahead to stay.

The Warthogs got runners in scoring position in the eighth, but could not score. Wally Rosa lead the Warthogs' 14 hit attack with three hits. The 'hogs also left 11 runners on base. Mark Saccomanno had three hits for Salem

The Warthogs play gave two of their three game series at Salem Friday night. First pitch is at 6:05pm. LHP Tyler Lumsden will make the start for Winston-Salem. LHP Mark McLemore will toss for Salem.
