
Warriors Win Final Home Game in Overtime

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The defending NBA D-League Champion Santa Cruz Warriors (19-29) defeated the Reno Bighorns (31-17) 121-118 in overtime at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Wednesday night. Tonight's game marks the Santa Cruz Warriors' seventh consecutive sell-out at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
Mychel Thompson paced Santa Cruz with a season high 28 points, while Aaron Craft recorded a triple-double, securing 21 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds. Darington Hobson added 20 points and eight rebounds.
David Stockton led Reno with 21 points and eight assists. Erick Green posted 19 points, while Kadeem Jack added 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Eric Moreland notched a double-double with 12 points and a game-high of 14 rebounds.
Reno would jump out to a 15-4 lead in the opening minutes of the game and would keep a minimum of an 8-point distance for the remainder of the quarter. Santa Cruz would outscore Reno 19-13 to open the second quarter, cutting the deficit to eight points halfway through the frame. The Bighorns would pull away to enter the locker room with a 10-point advantage.
The Warriors would open the second half on a 15-5 run, tying the game at 66-all by the 7:55 mark in the third quarter. The remainder of the frame would see five ties and two lead changes, with Reno holding a one-point advantage heading into the final frame.
The fourth quarter was a tight battle until Santa Cruz pulled away to take a 108-102 lead with 2:56 remaining in the frame. The Warriors would continue to control the scoreboard for the next two minutes and twenty seconds of play, leading 114-109 with 35.7 seconds left on the clock.
Green scored a three-point shot on Reno's next possession to bring the Bighorns within two points of the Warriors. Darington Hobson would be called for a backcourt violation, giving Reno the ball with 15.5 seconds to play in regulation.
Green assisted Cliff Hammonds for a lay- up to tie the game at 114-all with 2.9 seconds remaining. Santa Cruz failed to score on its final possession, sending the game into overtime.
The Warriors jumped out to a 117-114 lead in overtime behind a Craft three-point shot. Santa Cruz would continue to maintain its advantage, leading 119-118 with 53.2 seconds on the clock. Reno would grab a rebound off of a missed Warriors shot for one final possession with just under thirty seconds to play. Stockton would fail to capitalize on a three-point shot, shifting control of the ball to Santa Cruz with 5.9 seconds on the clock.
Thompson would get fouled and score two free throws to put Santa Cruz up 121-118 with 3.6 seconds remaining in overtime. Reno would not score in the final seconds of the contest, giving the Warriors the 121-118 victory in their final home game of the season.
As a "Green Week" initiative, the Warriors, along with Allterra Solar and Big Creek Lumber, will plant three times as many trees as three-pointers recorded by both teams during tonight's contest. In total, the Santa Cruz Warriors and the Reno Bighorns combined for 19 three-point shots; as a result, 57 trees will be planted in Santa Cruz County.
