Bighorns Fall Short in Overtime to Warriors

SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Reno Bighorns (31-17) fell on their final regular season road game to the Santa Cruz Warriors (19-29) 121-118 Wednesday night in overtime at the Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, Ca.

David Stockton recorded 21 points, three rebounds and eight assists to lead the Bighorns. Erick Green recorded 19 points, three rebounds and five assists as Ricky Ledo would net 17 points and grab six rebounds.

Sacramento Kings assignment player, Eric Moreland, would record his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Mychel Thompson led the Warriors with 28 points, two rebounds and four assists. Aaron Craft recorded a triple-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists. Darington Hobson totaled 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

The Bighorns took control of the game early after a three from Ledo in the first 30 seconds of play. The Bighorns would keep the Warriors scoreless the first two minutes of play. After going on a 13-2 run midway through the first, the Bighorns led the Warriors 18-6 with 3:44 remaining in the quarter. The Bighorns would lead the Warriors by 15 at the 1:30 mark entering the second quarter with a 30-16 lead. Kadeem Jack would net 12 of his 18 points in the quarter behind a 5-6 shooting effort.

The Bighorns would continue to maintain their advantage over the Warriors entering the second quarter. The warriors would chip away at the Bighorns closing the deficit to nine before the Bighorns would go on an 8-2 run with 2:43 remaining in the first half. The Bighorns would go into the locker room at the half leading the Warriors 61-51.

The Bighorns shot 51% from three-point range in the first half.

The third quarter would be a tightly contested battle seeing two lead changed and six ties. Santa Cruz would go on a 15-5 run to taking the lead for the first time of the game with 7:50 on the clock. The two teams would keep the score close the remainder of the frame with the Bighorns leading the Warriors 83-82 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Warriors would take make a jump on the Bighorns with an early 92-89 lead. With 3:56 remaining in regulation, the Warriors would have their largest lead of the night with a 106-100 advantage over the Bighorns. The Bighorns would chip away at the Warriors closing the deficit to 114-112 after a triple from Stockton. The Bighorns would tie the game at 114 after a jumper from Cliff Hammonds with 2.9 seconds left in regulation. The teams would alternate the lead three times in the quarter.

During overtime, Craft would sink a three early in the extra frame. The Bighorns would respond closing the deficit to 117-116. Stockton would make a three-point attempt with 6.9 seconds remaining in play, but would be unsuccessful. Thompson would score the Warriors remaining points securing a 121-118 win over the Bighorns.

The Bighorns return to the Reno Events Center on Friday, Apr. 1 at 7 P.M. to host the Bakersfield Jam for a two-game homestand.
