Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

The Moose Jaw Warriors are excited to announce the signing of 16-year-old defenceman Cosmo Wilson to a Western Hockey League standard player agreement.

"We would like to welcome Cosmo and his family to our organization," Jason Ripplinger, Warriors' general manager, said.

Wilson was drafted by the Warriors in the seventh round, 136th overall, in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.

Moose Jaw has now signed its top four draft picks, and five players in total, from the 2020 draft.

"It's so exciting, so surreal to be here," Wilson, who has joined the team in Moose Jaw, said after committing to the organization.

Wilson played 34 games with the Okanagan Rockets under-18 AAA team this past season, serving as an assistant captain. He posted six goals and 12 points to go along with 42 penalty minutes.

The Vernon, B.C. product has also suited up in seven games with his hometown Vipers in the BCHL.

"Cosmo is a smooth skating defencemen, he moves the puck well and does a good job defending," Ripplinger said.

Wilson calls himself a strong two-way player.

"I like to play more defence than offence, but I can step up in the play if needed," he said.

Wilson has joined the Warriors and is expected to make his season debut over the final four games of the regular season.

He said he's looking forward to getting a taste of WHL hockey.

"It's super exciting," Wilson said. "Playoffs are physical and I think I can bring some more physicality to the team for sure."

The Warriors will return to the ice coming up on Saturday when they travel to Brandon to face-off with the Wheat Kings.

Playoff ticket packages are on sale now at mjwarriors.ca.
