SANTA CRUZ - In the program's second year, the Santa Cruz Warriors, Kaiser Permanente and The Athletes' Corner teamed up to donate 53,310 meals to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County as part of the Swishes for Dishes food insecurity initiative. During the 2021-22 NBA G League Regular Season, 10 meals were donated per point the Warriors scored. With a goal of 50,000 meals, the Sea Dubs surpassed that target and scored 5,331 points throughout the season, totaling 53,310 meals for the Santa Cruz community.
"The Santa Cruz Warriors were excited to host the Swishes for Dishes initiative for a second consecutive season," said Santa Cruz Warriors President Chris Murphy. "Last year, we saw the impact that 50,000 meals can have on our community, so it was very important to bring this initiative back. I am so proud to say we surpassed our goal and will feed a lot more community members."
Launched in December 2020 with the Golden State Warriors, Kaiser Permanente and The Athletes' Corner, Swishes for Dishes is an initiative designed to address food insecurity issues throughout the Bay Area.
"We truly appreciate our partnership with the Santa Cruz Warriors and the Swishes for Dishes program. Providing over 53,000 meals makes a huge difference for many of our neighbors experiencing food insecurity," said Second Harvest Food Bank Corporate and Community Relations Director Richelle Noroyan. "Thank you, Santa Cruz Warriors and Kaiser Permanente, for your continued support."
"Kaiser Permanente is proud to partner on this important program combating food insecurity in our community," said Senior Vice President and Area Manager for Kaiser Permanente San Jose and Santa Cruz County Irene Chavez. "Thank you to the Warriors, The Athletes' Corner and Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County for making this effort so impactful."
