
Warriors Hold off Stampede

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Idaho Stampede 100-98 Tuesday, heading into the All-Star break in first place in the West Division.
Santa Cruz was led by Seth Curry, who scored 28 points and grabbed five rebounds. MarShon Brooks, currently on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, scored 18, while Kent Bazemore, also on assignment from Golden State, had 13 points.
Idaho was paced by Dee Bost, who recorded a triple-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Kevin Murphy scored a team-high 28 points, while Dallas Lauderdale grabbed 10 boards. Derrick Caracter scored 17 points off the bench.
The game was tied six times in the first quarter, but Santa Cruz went on a 10-2 run to take an eight-point lead into the second. The Warriors added to their advantage, leading by as much as 13 in the second frame, but a 13-1 Idaho run brought the Stampede ahead by three at the half. Idaho entered the final period ahead by four and led by as much as eight, but the Warriors chipped away and tied the game at 93 off a Seth Curry layup with 3:24 remaining. After an Idaho turnover, Curry hit a three-pointer to put the Warriors ahead 96-93, but the Stampede responded and came within one off a Derrick Caracter tip shot. With 13.2 seconds remaining, the Warriors got a defensive stop when Hilton Armstrong blocked Pierre Jackson's shot in the paint. Kent Bazemore grabbed the rebound, drew the foul and connected on both free throws to give the Warriors the victory.
The Warriors held the edge on field goal shooting (49.4%-40.0%), points in the paint (52-34), steals (13-9) and turnovers (18-21). The Stampede had more rebounds (50-36) and blocks (6-5).
The Santa Cruz Warriors return from the All-Star break to face the Springfield Armor on Thursday, Feb. 20 and Friday, Feb. 21 at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
