Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Moose Jaw, SK - The Moose Jaw Warriors remain focused and confident as they face elimination for the first time in the 2023 Western Hockey League Playoffs.

"We've been in all the games in this series, we've been leading for a long period of time throughout the series, so we're a confident group and we're ready for the challenge," Warriors forward Atley Calvert said.

The Warriors face-off with the Winnipeg ICE in Game 6 of their second round series on Monday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

Winnipeg pushed Moose Jaw into a do-or-die situation with a 5-2 win in Game 5 on Saturday.

"That game was a perfect example of what we expected from the series, real close, right to the end, big picture, tied 2-2 in the series, tied 2-2 in the game with five minutes to go and they capitalized on an opportunity and we didn't when we had chances," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said.

"We're still in this thing, it's been tight all the way through and looking forward to playing one at home."

The Warriors led 2-0 after the first period in Game 5 and with the game tied 2-2 in the third, they had chances to retake the lead, but couldn't finish.

O'Leary said the face that the Warriors continue to generate opportunities to score gives them confidence they can extend the series.

"We're generating looks right now, they're capitalizing one more time than we are, but you've got to think that's going to change and hopefully that's tonight," he said.

Moose Jaw has only lost once on home ice so far in the playoffs and the team is hoping playing in front of the home crowd will give them the boost that they need.

"We need to bring a lot of energy, play without fear and our fans are going to be great tonight and we'll come ready to play and leave it all out there," Calvert said.

O'Leary said the team is excited to get on the ice for the game.

"We have to win one game at home, that's the mindset," he said. "We've done it a lot of times this year, had really good games at home coming off of a tough loss, so we need to do it again."

The Warriors and ICE face-off at 7 p.m. tonight at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with Happy Hour specials on beer and food running until 6:30 p.m.
