August 9, 2009 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

With a once three-run lead having dwindled to just one, the Keys turned to their power bats, hitting three home runs in the game's final three innings to defeat Winston-Salem 9-2, splitting a four-game weekend series with the Dash.

Up 3-2 in the seventh inning, Keys 3B Brandon Waring homered after 1B Robbie Widlansky doubled to open the inning. The home run was Waring's 20th of the year giving Frederick it's three-run advantage back.

It is the first time a Key has registered 20 home runs since Jason Fransz did so in 2006.

Leading 5-2 in the ninth inning Frederick put the game on ice as Widlansky hit his sixth home run of the season, a solo drive to left field with one out in the inning. After a fielding error prolonged the inning, DH Wally Crancer launched a three-run shot to right-field to up the lead to 9-2.

For Crancer it was his seventh home run of the season and third at Wake Forest Ballpark in 2009.

The Keys got a strong start from RHP Kenny Moreland who earned his third win in four league starts working 5 and 2/3rd innings.

Relievers Eddie Gamboa and Ryan Rodriguez worked 3 and 2/3rd shutout innings to preserve the win.

Frederick is now five games in back of first place Wilmington with a clutch series with second place Potomac looming. The three-game set kicks off at Pfitzner Stadium Tuesday afternoon August 11th at 12:05 p.m. Sean Gleason will make the start for Frederick.

The Keys will head home Friday, August 14th for NFL Night at Harry Grove Stadium. Baltimore Ravens Cheerleaders will be in attendance and fireworks will follow the 7:00 p.m. game against Winston-Salem.
