Winston-Salem Dash News Release
Winston-Salem, NC - Frederick jumped in front early and never looked back in defeating Winston-Salem 9-2 on Sunday evening at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Three hurlers combined to silence the Dash bats while the Keys used three home runs to pull away late as the two clubs split this four-game series.
Dash starting pitcher Gregory Infante could not find the strike zone in the third inning and the Keys took advantage with a pair of runs. Pedro Florimon was hit by pitch with one away and Robbie Widlansky popped out for the second out. What looked like a harmless inning got out of control as Infante walked the next four batters including bases-loaded free passes to Ryan Adams and Wally Crancer. Infante was pulled in favor of Wander Perez, who induced an inning-ending ground out with the bases-loaded to minimize the damage.
Infante (1-2) only lasted 2.1 innings and allowed two runs on just one hit, but walked six to suffer the loss. He has worked 20.1 innings with the Dash this season and walked 23 batters while hitting four.
Frederick added a run in the top of the sixth inning on Matt Angle's RBI single that gave the Keys a 3-0 lead. The Dash offense finally showed some life in the bottom of the inning when third baseman Brent Morel led off with a single and fist baseman Seth Loman followed with a two-run home run to trim Winston-Salem's deficit to 3-2.
Keys starter Kenny Moreland (3-0) departed shortly after the Loman home run, but secured a solid outing. He held the Dash to two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings to collect the win.
Frederick stretched their lead back to three in the top of the seventh inning when Brandon Waring launched a two-run home run off Dash reliever Nate Jones. The Keys turned to the long ball twice in the ninth inning as Robbie Widlansky lifted a solo shot off Santo Luis. After an error kept the inning alive, Wally Crancer put an exclamation point on the Keys victory when he smacked a three-run blast to make it 9-2 Keys.
The Keys bullpen maintained the strong showing on the mound as Eddie Gamboa worked 2.2 scoreless inning and struck out three. Ryan Rodriguez, who pitched in Winston-Salem for three seasons, recorded the final three outs to preserve the win.
Winston-Salem will enjoy an off day on Monday before opening a seven-game, six-day road trip on Tuesday night against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. The Dash will send RHP Jacob Rasner (3-3, 3.60) to the mound, while the Blue Rocks are expected to start LHP Michael Montgomery (1-0, 2.25). The first pitch from Frawley Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The Dash returns to Wake Forest Baseball Park on Tuesday, August 18 when they open a four-game, three-day series with a doubleheader against the Potomac Nationals. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. For more information on all the upcoming promotions or to purchase single-game tickets, visit www.wsdash.com or by call the Dash office at (336) 714-2287.
